Happy Veterans Day!
This year has brought me opportunities to become closer to the military than I ever have been in my life.
First, my nephew was accepted into the Citadel Military College of South Carolina. That means he’ll be involved in the armed forces for the foreseeable near future. I’m proud of him for being accepted, and for the path he is taking in becoming a man. I am impressed, and I am humbled by this young man’s sensibility.
Teresa Funke’s Author Visits to Schools
Then, my good friend Sonia asked me to co-sponsor with her Teresa Funke’s Author Visits to Schools. Teresa writes books whose themes are woven from World War II. Veterans, service people and all of those affected by world war are part and parcel of her writing and her talks. She goes to schools, encourages kids to read as a way of not only improving their future, but also of understanding their connection to the recent past. That has been one of the best places I’ve ever lent my support, and I’m so glad to be a part of it.
Healing Warriors Program
Through mutual friends, the Healing Warriors Program and I found our way to each other. I helped them with both of their galas and they have brought so much joy and gratitude into my heart. The pride and dedication of these people are another humbling example of what we can do for each other.
Please join me in supporting either of these two worthy efforts. If you’d like, just be in touch with me.
Or, just take a moment to revere Veterans Day, a truly special day of the year!
